Sclerotherapy is a method relying on the injection of a sclerosing solution into offending veins, which causes closing of the walls of the vein. The sclerosant medication can be in the form of a foam or a liquid. In order to see problem veins special equipment is used. The small veins are visible with the help of a special vein torch, however the deep veins are evaluated by ultrasound. The ultrasound is necessary to evaluate insufficiency of the veins, as well as to guide the injections of the medication.
