Methods of removing varicose veins
Methods of removing varicose veins
1. Surgery
Surgical cutting out of affected veins of the main trunk, so called saphenous veins under general anaesthesia.
2. Sclerotherapy
Involves injecting varicose veins with a sclerosing solution (liquid or foam) and causing it to shut down and turn into scar tissue. This removes the varicose vein from general blood circulation. It is essential in this method to use ultrasound in order to identify incompetent veins and guide injections to prevent the sclerosing agent to spill over the vein which can cause necrosis of the skin.
3. Conservative treatment
Use of phlebotropic medicine causes the hindering of symptoms of vein insufficiency.
Compression therapy or applying special pressure products like stockings or socks in order to prevent and slow down the development of varicose veins in persons with the predisposition to this condition.
4. Laser therapy
Has limited application in treating tiny spider veins.
The big varicose veins can be also treated by inserting a laser fibre into an affected vein and destroying this vein with the heat generated by the laser. There is one condition to this surgery. The varicose vein must be straight. This method is very expensive.
5. Cryosurgery
It is a type of surgical treatment which relies on destroying an incopetent vein with the help of a special probe inserted through an incision in the skin.
6. Cruroscopy
This method is called a sub-facial endoscopic perforating vein surgery and relies on sub-facial cutting of perforators with the use of the laparoscopy technique.
This surgery is performed on select patients in the hospital in Hajnowka.
